WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Snow cover reduced to 50% by 5 June, and melt off complete around 10 June. Summer was early, warm and very dry. Extremal events were not recorded. Weather conditions at the start of summer were favourable for bird reproduction.

Season temperature: warm
Season humidity: dry
Date of 50% snow-cover: 5 June
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow: 10 June

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

average

Breeding conditions:

Lemmings had average numbers locallly at foothills and Arctic Foxes were common. We found 3 nests of Rough-legged Buzzards, 5 nests of Snowy Owls with 7-8 eggs or chicks (the only breeding area from surveyed by us on Chukotka). Skuas, including Pomorine, nested too. Pressure of hunting is seasonal. Nesting success of geese, waders, gulls and Sandhill Crane was evaluated as high.
